چکیده

The pulmonary lymph flow, m e d by our previously published method, is reported in ten dogs after irradiation to anterior mediastinal portals which included the medial one-thud of both lungs. In group A (six dogs) the lymph flow of the lung was measured immediately after the course of radiation and in group B (four dogs) a period of about five months elapsed. Our results show that the lymph flow in the lungs of dogs after exposure to radiation is not altered appreciably either immediately after the completion of a course of radiation or after a delay of several months. The implication is that neither the initial radiation nor the later fibrosis significantly interferes with the lymphatic c h nels. Alterations in the parenchyma of the lung such as patchy edema and severe chronic pneumonitis are not quantitatively reflected in the pulmonary lymph flow.

Contamination of lymph from the major prenodal cardiac lymphatic in dogs.

Cannulation of the canine major prenodal cardiac lymphatic (MPCL) is the most common approach for the investigation of myocardial lymphatic function. However, the assumption that the MPCL drains pure cardiac lymph has been questioned. We studied variations of MPCL anatomy and investigated whether noncardiac lymph is drained by this lymphatic. After dye was injected into the lungs and left ventr...

Right duct lymph flow in experimental heart failure following acute elevation of left atrial pressure.

We measured the pulmonary lymph flow in dogs with mild congestive failure before and after acute elevation of the left atrial pressure to 40 cm of water. The creation of an aorticocaval fistula and the administration of desoxycorticosterone trimethylacetate and a salt enriched diet in 6 dogs produced mild pulmonary edema and partial expansion of the pulmonary lymphatics 10 to 12 days postoperat...
